About Us

Who We Are

KOI USA Inc. is both a for-profit California corporation and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Associated Koi Clubs of America (AKCA). The mission of KOI USA is to provide a quality magazine for a broad range of koi hobbyists at a reasonable profit while providing financial stability to our non-profit AKCA parent corporation for the purposes of promoting, creating and enlarging the hobby of keeping, breeding, appreciating and exhibiting koi.

KOI USA’s personnel include executive officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, CFO, Editor, Assistant Editor, Business Manager, and Webmaster), several Directors-at-large, 3 volunteer proofreaders and a few key independent contractors (Production Manager, Accounts Receivable and Website Design & Maintenance).  Our subscription service is handled by Publisher’s Creative Systems (PCS) in Escondido, CA, while our magazine is printed by American Web, Inc. (out of Denver, CO).

Originally founded and published by the late, great Eddie Fujimoto in 1976, KOI USA was purchased by the AKCA in 1980 and soon became its club organ.  In today’s web savvy society, KOI USA recently underwent a makeover: By separating the majority of repetitive club data from editorial content and placing it on our website (club listings, club news, calendar of events, etc.) we were able to reduce our magazine’s size (and weight) without compromising our editorial content.  The result was an impressive savings in paper, ink and postage costs thereby allowing us to keep our low, low subscription rates intact.

KOI USA is a high quality magazine containing a variety of articles from pond construction, filtration, breeding, fish health, DIY projects, judging and classification, to club shows and pond tours, to dealer listings, club news and upcoming club events. In other words, there’s something in KOI USA for everyone in our hobby!

KOI USA has 92 pages in full color and six issues are published annually (January/February, March/April, May/June, July/August, September/October, and November/December).  KOI USA is mailed to 49 out of 50 states, 8 Canadian provinces and 24 foreign countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, Australia and the Caribbean.

Some other ways our magazine supports you, your club and our hobby:

1). Subscriptions for AKCA club members are discounted from $24.95 to $20.00 per year.

2). Your club will be entitled to a free listing, including the name and phone number of one of your members as a contact person,  in KOI USA.

3). AKCA club events are calendared on both the AKCA and KOI USA websites.

4). AKCA club news is reported on the KOI USA website.

5). The Editor will donate 2 KOI USA subscriptions for clubs to raffle off at their shows (in exchange for article submissions).

6). The Editor will purchase a KOI USA ad in an AKCA club’s Koi Show and/or Pond Tour booklet at the normal booklet ad rate (up to a maximum cost of $100.00 per ad) in exchange for article submissions.

As you can plainly see there are many, many good reasons to subscribe to KOI USA magazine.

So if you haven’t done so already, please subscribe today.  It’s never too late to invest in your and your club’s future in this wonderful hobby we all share.
Thank you.
