"Visit Niigata" is a multi-purpose concept created and developed by Fujio Oomo. The origin of the concept goes back to the period of earthquakes that occured in the Niigata region in 2004 and the recovery stage which brought forth many offers of support from the koi hobbyist and business communities. As a way of saying "thank you" and to promote the koi export industry Oomo-san's idea was to create koi flags to be given away to hobbyists clubs and organizations. Steve's article explains the project from the beginning to fruition, including the engagement of the Japanese government to offset the costs of the flags.
